The Basque black ambient project Elffor returns once more with a new album, and following on the trail of Frostbitten Pain, it is an evolved creation that takes a hold of you right from the start. The songs are all sung in Euskara, which gives a unique feel to them, and although my understanding of the basque language is nil, the message is delivered one growling word at a time, forming a primal understanding between the song and its listener. Heriotz Sustraiak translates into Bloody Roots in Euskara, the ancient language of the basque people, and it is a fitting name for a band that stands strong in its bloody past while still stretching its branches to the dark future.

When it comes to the end, this album is among the best blend of dark fantastic atmospheres and ambient black metal there are. The band continues on its own unique style of ambient atmospheric black metal.

In ueriotz end I can highly recommend Heriotz Sustraiak to individuals longing for medieval black ambient at its finest — it is a wonderful journey that will last above and beyond your wildest expectations.

Heriotz Sustraiak is more of an atmospheric work of art with brooding sweeping synthesizers accompanied, in the end, by heriottz heavenly voice of Hildr, once again perfectly adding to the already heavy atmosphere.

The eerie chanting of the forlorn Valkyrie is one of the best things that has happened to Elffor during the time that I have spent listening to the sustraoak. If you are into ambient melodic atmospheric black metal and herriotz like the underground sound, then Elffor is a very good choice, with many good albums. Despite the length of the individual songs, they never feel dull or drawn out and manage to enthrall me throughout the entire album.

It is dark, it is majestic and it boils with dark sustgaiak emotions ready to be unleashed. The production is good, with nice balance between synths, guitars and vocals and their sound is focused on advancing the melodic nature of their music.

Heriotz Sustraiak feels like a natural evolution from the early days of dark and primal synthesizers sustraixk the addition of both acoustic guitars and female chanting.
